It's an eight dollar tube of something that looks like...perfectly round eggs.
So, I bought it.
It turns out it is something called Bocca Pudding. Inside every tube there are four puddings along with four packages of caramel sauce. Each pudding is wrapped in what looks like a thin balloon.
It takes a mere prick from a toothpick or knife to send that tightly stretched shell fleeing and releasing the relatively round deliciousness inside.
A little caramel sauce and a spoon and voila! The best pudding I've ever eaten in my life. It seems to have won some award in Hokkaido, too. It has the consistancy of whipped butter and probably four times as many calories. But, OMG, is it amazing.
And if you think eight bucks is pricey for a couple of desserts, just remember it comes with a sheet of cow stickers...the cows it seems are all enjoying a little posing with Bocca Puddings of their own.
They have green tea flavored, too!

looks tasty... any in north america?
I wonder... I really wish I could share the experience. H.e.a.v.e.n.l.y. Now, I gave my last two to my in laws. Wanna bet my mother-in-law will hate it?
Well, the cow stickers have to be worth at least 5 bucks on their own. Uh, no, that would be five male deer...oh well, at least the pudding was great!
Wonderful pun!! You win!
You all have the coolest stuff over there. Would you Fedex us some?
Pretty amazing what the Japanese can do! It's like Ramen Noodles...although I think those are Chinese...fabulous inventions.
If your mother-in-law is anything like mine, she will never tell you even if she did like them.
Pat, I often wish I could open some sort of import store there. Certain things I just know would be huge hits.
Latin lupe lu, yea, ramen is originally Chinese but the Japanese have added their own touches. Delish!
And yes, she would never tell me if she liked them. I'm guessing she'll say, "Ooooh they're so rich, so many calories, of course YOU would like them."
That looks so cool. At first glance, I thought it was a tube of tennis balls. I'll take your word that it's delicious - even though the word "chocolate" didn't come up.. ;)
You won me over when you said..."It has the consistancy of whipped butter" ha ha ha. Oh man, your description and the pics have me wishing to try some! Is it only available locally or is it available all over Japan? : )
You certainly do find the coolest things though!!! : ) Looks yumm! : )
Hilary, I would have prefered chocolate, too. And sprinkles. Sprinkles are always good.
Gina, I found this in one of those 'fancy' stores. My husband says its a place where all the celebrities by their food. Whatever that means... Hang on, okay, I just asked...it's "Something Ishii". Him not remembering the "something" part.
"No Biting!" - Send me that sticker, please.
imomomo
It's yours!

Good for my diet that I'm not in Japan. And they're not here.
