Because it's Too Hot to do Anything...

Yesterday was the first day in weeks that J didn't have school. Despite summer vacation having started a week ago, he's been going daily (Saturdays and Sundays included) for band practice. Once the kids get in junior high you just don't see them anymore.

Since he had the day off, though, we decided to go to our special little river spot to cool off. It runs through a valley of green and tea fields.

We took the pup. This heat has been kicking his ass. He was dragging so bad the other day, he couldn't even muster the strength to bite the water that shot from the hose as I watered the flowers.

Here he is thanking J with a nose kiss.

He made some funny faces.

Is THAT a fish?

J loved his swimming eyes. The last several years he's never really gotten into the swimming thing. This time he dog paddled like a pro.

And here he is being a goof.

The thing we like best is when we pick him up and he continues to dog paddle.

His little feet just keep going.

After a couple hours Cha began to freak out. Is that thunder? Sure enough some dark clouds swept in from over the mountain. We decided to pack up and call it a day.

Thank goodness because half way down the road and the skies opened up.

And today everyone is sunburned and content.

Hello, Womaninthewindow! Last year we didn't get to go but once. My husband said this summer we'll try and make it out every weekend. You really do get re energized surrounded by so much nature.

Lovely photos, Terrie. That boy of your and his pup are adorable! It sounds and looks like you had a perfect day. I cracked up when you said he keeps paddling when lifted out of the water, and that nose kiss photo is just perfect.

Latin lupe lu, thank you. It's hard to find time to take him anywhere with us. I'm so glad he wanted to go (kid...not dog).

Hilary, I wish I had taken a short video. It's like he's saying, It's okay if you drop me know...I'm still swimming.

MDK, I just stopped by your blog the other day looking for you. So glad to see (?) you!

Rebecca, thanks for stopping by. Yes, I think he'll be willing to put down his homework this summer to hang out with his old, geeky parents a little. You wouldn't believe how much homework he has!

What a great day! I love the pics; they're both so cute! It's unbearably hot here, too, but our swimming spot is still flooded from too much spring rain. Sure miss it!

Plaidearthworm, I was watching the news and saw a river somewhere in Japan just flooded, suddenly, no warning. There was even video. Four people died. Scared the living #%&$ out of me. Hopefully yours will mellow out and you can go soak in some cool mountain water.

I love your blog for many reasons but for one. You have an older son and I love hearing/reading stuff that I might be facing in the future. It's so helpful honestly, you won't believe it! : ) Like this one..."Once the kids get in junior high you just don't see them anymore." I am making a total mental note of this one and will remember this one for sure!!! : )

Also, I loved reading about your day at the river! The views and greenery are absolutely spectacular! J is such a sweetheart! And your dog. I gotta tell ya, I just love your pup! A pup with total star personality, I see! He sure did swim that doggy paddle like a pro, didn't he? Loved the nose kiss he gave to J! : )

Looks like you're having as green and lush a summer as we are here in the Great White North. Those first couple of pics really made me wish I was there. Gorgeous.

Your pup is a real charmer. I just love the natural clown aspect of most pooches. And that kid of yours looks like a keeper too. ;)

Green and lush in the mountains. Outside my window is a dry wasteland...or so it seems. Cha and Julyan say thanks!
