Today I'll be offering more sticky goodness, the non-reeking kind.
Here is a video of a famous shop in Nara where they pound glutinous rice into sticky rice.
Why is this place famous you ask? Keep watching until 48 seconds mark and then it all makes sense.

Boy, they work WAY harder than Snap, Crackle and Pop ever did.
Oh my good God - do you suppose their workman's comp premiums are a bit high? :)
And does that stuff taste good?
Speaking of that, I am an only child and I remember how devastated I was when my mom bought Rice Crispies and those little guys weren't included to entertain me at breakfast.
Pat, ha! I wonder. How many fingies have been smushed training for this. And it's very tasty! Should do blog post on that. Good idea, thanks ^^.
From about the age of 18 months or so, every guy knows instinctively that whacking things with mallets and hammers is art.
And those dudes are masters. Thanks for the show. :)
My kids miss mochi with all their hearts. I keep meaning to make it in my bread machine, but I don't think it would be the same somehow.
Frank, so true. Men and mallets. I swear. ^^
Mary, you should try! Or if you want I can send you some of that powder stuff they sell that you just mix with hot water and it turns into mochi...can't remember the name off hand...
