Cheese Aliens/ Garlic Aliens

I hardly ever eat cup ramen. But that doesn't mean I don't admire the heck out of it. Especially here in Japan where there is over a gazillion different types and judging from the packaging the majority look like something you would be served in a four star restaurant. Still I don't buy them or eat them. All that salt and whatnot.

Last week I crumbled.

I ran across this:

Cheese and garlic. The two most divine foods in one place. And it wasn't just the ingredients that caught my eyes. Look at this:

Here you have the Cheese Alien shooting his cheesey beams into the mix.

On the other side we find the Garlic Alien adding his essence.

All to create....

It was actually, really, really, very good. I might have to give up my boycott on cup noodles.

Yum! I'm going to try to recreate that taste with the heinz chicken ramen we get here. Wish me luck!

I love cheese and garlic but can't imagine cheese in ramen - the broth is kinda nice just being thin, you know? Maybe I'll give it a try if it ever comes here; Kelly would probably eat the stuff out of it! How's the sodium content?

Okay, granted I haven't had ramen since my college days, and while I loved it back then and while I still love cheese and garlic today, I simply can't imagine these tastes together. But that may also just be my cultural prejudices getting in the way.

Girl Japan, is that a good ohmygawd or a disgusted ohmygawd?

Tigermama, totally take a picture!

Pat, I know...reconsituted cheese no less! I imagine the sodium content it through the roof. Although recently they've been making 'healthy' cup noodles. Need to try those.

Richard, at first I thought the same thing. But wasn't really cheesy like we Americans think cheesy, so that might have helped. Think gentle garlic soup with the occaional bite of cheese thrown in. Now chew.

Frank, I'll send you a cup in return for that book plate. Deal!

It actually looks really good. With the fun packaging, I'd be willing to give a try.

Hilary, I know. I know. I'm usually so anti-cup ramen. I think it was the G word that did me in as well.

Girl Japan, is that sympathy weight gain?

MDK, okay, not just the G word but the cute aliens, also. I'm a sucker for cute packaging.

And why isn't my e-mail telling me I have comments!? Need to check that.

That looks great, but I'm not fooled: those things are tasty all right, but they're fairly oozing with aji-no-moto. My youngest daughter practically lives on them, then wonders why she's always got that funny feeling in her sinuses.

Love that cheese alien, though. He visits us a LOT.
