The Problem with Japan...

Sorry. I gotta tell the truth here.

It's the beginning of the year and after a month of eating the most wonderful foods and really feeling it, I decided to start the year off right and eat well, eat less, exercise more. All that.

Yesterday I went to the store and found racks upon racks upon racks of these:

They are already out for Valentine's Day.

Imported from around the world or made right here in Japan. These puppies in the pictures are from Ginza.

High-end. Dark, milk, white.

Strawberry.

It seems there's always a reason to celebrate, to eat. After Valentine's Day will come White Day, then all the fancy rice cakes for the spring equinox, next you have summer with all its ice cream and snow cones and other appetite-inducing foods. Oh, don't get me started on autumn. That's the harvest, not to mention you've got another equinox and a moon viewing. And then comes winter with its nabemono followed by Christmas and all that New Year's oseshi and we're right back to spring again.
The problem with Japan is everything tastes so damn good!

What are you trying to do .... knock me off my diet... hehe... I have been practicing eating sweets in moderation, I have one every night and eat regular... I think I only increased my eating because I increased my workouts.. Oh yea.. I was at the super yesterday.. and they were everywhere.. 2.14 right there in big bold letters... We buy snacks but if you have just one, or two, or a hand full of chips.. still losing.. but man... it is hard to have will power during Dec/Jan/Feb with all the good eats...

(I wonder if she'll notice that I'm stealing the dark chocolates)

Who me? Nothing!

And did you notice who started White Day? The National Confectionery Industry Association!! Sheesh...it's a conspiracy.

Yeah, a conspiracy. And save some extra darks for me!

You got that right! I really miss all of the good food in Japan...and I`m not just talking about the sweets. Sukiyaki, Nabe, Shabu shabu, yakitori, onigiri, yakiniku, gyudon, oyakodon, soba, somen, udon, ramen, okonomiyaki, good and fresh sushi, sigh...we miss it all!

It's not just Japan, honey -- it's everywhere. Though having said that, I'm pretty glad not to have the temptation of unagi, tempura soba, and Tops chocolate cake around me anymore.

Girl Japan, that's what I need to do...say, okay one of those little beasties a night. Only ONE! But then my son comes along and says, "What do you think is inside this one? Here, you have the other half."

Oh, Hilary, I'm sending them to you. I am! Oh, wait...where'd they all go?

Yeah Pat, White Day is just mean. Cruel. Unfair. And still everyone is skinny! What's up with that?

Leenie, a girl after my own heart. I'm a dark chocolate maniac.

Tigermama, stop, stop! All those nabe foods just slay me. Sooo gooood! Nothing like my mom's charbroiled steaks and canned peas. Sorry, mom. She does cook much better now.

Mary, what's funny is that in the States I was better at saying no because it wasn't so 'divinely' good. I mean, an M&M is an M&M is an M&M (although now they seem to have all sorts of new flavors). I bet you have some darned yummy foods where you are now though.

I don't eat chocolates but my wife will gain a pound just looking at the pictures. You are right, it is a conspiracy.

Builderhog...are you my husband? He doesn't eat chocolate either and he's seen me gaze affectionately at those sinful treats gaining weight the whole time.

We're having nabe this week and I can't wait. I love all the seasonal foods and fruit we get in Japan.

Now you got me thinking about yummy chocolates though. : ) Must have a look now when I go to the shops next time. Bad influence, bad influence, ha ha ha. : ) J/k! : )

Gina, and have you ever noticed they put out all the displays right at the front door? It's not like you can close your eyes, run in for a carton of milk and leave without bumping into some almond truffle or hazelnut royal cream. Be strong. Be strong.

You put me in any country and I've got a problem. (Check out common denomenator.)

That's the problem with food in general. It is all so very good! And those chocolates nearly made me cry - I want them so bad! Lucky for me I have a Lindt store at the mall!

Japan sounds wonderful. (Talks someone, who doesn't eat chocolate) Why does everything tasting so damn good make it a problem?
