My Own Personal Ghost Detector

It came!!

J and I were farting around on the computer one day and found this--a Baketan, a ghost detector!

It's supposed to read disturbances in electromagnetic fields (or something) and warn you if a spirit is about. You push the little button and it blinks different colors as it searches for other-worldly presences. If it flashes blue it's informing you there's a guardian angel nearby. Green signals normal. And red equals DANGER! DANGER! Will Robinson!! To remedy this, you hold down the button to send up a force field, thus protecting you and yours.

It also makes sounds. It, um, translates the supernatural chatter it picks up. Once when I was messing with it walking up the dark stairs one night (everyone else was already asleep), it suddenly screamed "Help Me! Help Me!" Scared the living Sh%t out of ME! I tell ya.

What is also a hoot is that the Baketan is constantly searching for spectres 24/7 and if it discovers one, it will begin to flash and beep and yell at you. Which makes for interesting situations when you're on a crowded train and a tortured voice starts bellowing from your bookbag about the state of its soul. I smile and wink at the other passengers and imagine them all rushing home to blog about me the nutcase. We're all the same in the end.

Here's mine in action. While I was filming it my cat freaked out. You can hear her in the background.

So, J and I each bought one. Mine's on my cell phone and his on his DS. We've had them for about a week now and feel we're pretty safe. Well, I assume we're safe as long as we don't cross the streams.

OMG, that is too funny! They should make one that senses impending earthquakes...

Are you guys all right?

You know, I would get that but I get freaked by supernatural stuff like that! I swear I would freak out bad if that thing started doing that to me. This reminds me of a good post that I'll have to do!!

Pat, you are soooo right. Actually, they DO have an advanced warning system in effect now. I don't think it worked for the most recent earthquake, but there was a smaller one a few months ago where it went off and warned (via loudspeakers and special radio devices) everyone a few seconds ahead of time. If they had a portable one though...!!

Ello, I'm a sucker for stuff like this. It drives my mother-in-law crazy.

Can't wait to read your post!

It started doing it's Red Alert bit when it realized that cat-thing beside was possessed by a demon.

I think it comes 'awake' at night and stalks the house.

Yesterday M kept dropping stuff and running into things, all day. J had his on the kitchen table at once point later in the day and when M walked by it began to flash red and beep hysterically. J and I exchanged the most knowing look and fled from the room.

I wouldn't need one. My older sister Kassandra can "sense" ghosts. She starts yelling and putting random ofuda up everywhere so it looks like the house was express delivered straight from Japan. Her special hobby is telling people she meets randomly on the street what colour their auras are, what is their main chakra and what their guardian angel's form is.

This has got to be one of the most coolest posts ever! I dig that kinda stuff like that, really interesting too! : ) However, I am like the biggest chicken ever, ever, ever! I was deathly afraid of the dark as a child, had to cover my whole body under the covers or else I thought something would surely grab me! LOL. . And had to sleep with the light on. I love watching horror movies yet, then I am too scared to sleep at night, and I end up with those, "Felix the cat" eyeballs going left, right, left right, all night as I lay in bed all night long. As for the ghost detecting gadgets. I used to watch this cool show called...Ghost Hunters (I think was the name) and they had the coolest gadgets. They had EMF readers? And by the way (this is sorta silly but), everytime, I take a pic and I get a little circle on it. I often wonder if I just captured an "orb" on camera ha ha ha! : ) And the one that scared me the most was the EVP recorder that captures ghost voices. If I ever heard a ghost talking to me, I think I'd immediately drop dead of a heart attack, no questions asked! Ha ha ha. : )

I think your gadget is the coolest of them all though, : ) because it lights up *and* translates the ghost speak for ya! And what you said about walking up the stairs and hearing, "help me" Oh lordy, it made me laugh reading it, but I hear ya! I woulda absolutely freaked too! : )

Katarina, I wanna meet your sis! I've had people comment on my aura but never on my dominant chakra. And guardian angel form. That's just cool!

Gina, ha ha, I hear ya! I love the Felix the cat eyes comment. That's a great image. I've had some creepy stuff happen in my life. But recently (KNOCK ON WOOD!) things have been relatively calm.

I'm missing out! Why don't we have gadgets like that here? Still, it might not be a good thing: the house we live in dates back to the 1850s. I'm betting that thing would be beeping around the clock.

Ha ha, I can imagine, "Just turn the bleeping thing off! We know we got ghosts!"

OMG! That is too wicked. Real or not, I want one!
