Impulse Purchase of the Day

Brilliant! Today while shopping at the store I was stopped in my tracks by this:

It's oxygen. Not just any oxygen but green TEA flavored oxygen. They also had grapefruit and bitter chocolate scented as well.

Five bucks.

I read here that oxygen bars were started in Japan in the 1950s to revive policemen who passed out due to long hours in the street. Interesting. I know they are huge now. That and laying on hot slabs of rock (that's another blog entirely).

Here's a demonstation.

The funny thing is just last week J and I watched Little Shop of Horrors. He had never seen it before. After we took turns inhaling copious amounts of our green tea flavored oxygen (Do you feel anything? No. Do YOU feel anything?), we kinda had a moment where I suppose we both remembered Steve Martin in one of his more memorable roles. I had to explain, "No, no, nitrous oxide, totally different stuff!"

Now, if they had N2O bars...

So did you ever feel anything from the oxygen?

Wow, first they find a way to con the masses into buying water and now air..amazing lol

This may date me, but I can recall a guy convincing most of America to by a rock...as a pet. One every minute. Bet you won't find many Cubans buying a rock.

LoL, katharine. My kids have a pet rock, they didn't buy it though. They insist that it just "followed them home."

Pat: As much as we tried...we didn't feel a thing. *sniff*

Bk: I think one of the articles said something like that, first bottled water, now bottle AIR!

Katharine: I had one!

Bk: I like that it followed me home line.

I wish I could buy that crap here, with the way my work smells

Wow. Chocolate oxygen. Add a foot massage and an episode of Buffy and I would probably explode. The need to move from place to place to exercise my core needs is the only reason I remain sentient at all.

Thank Dog we've got bottled air now. We can stop worrying about all that nasty pollution. We can get air in any flavour that we want.

The world is too much for me sometimes. . .

Wow. Oxygen. And to think I thought it was a trip inhaling helium from a balloon and singing "I Will Survive" in a bar last weekend!

Bottled oxygen I know about (I believe there are oxygen bars at Bondi Beach - but I haven't been there recently) but scented oxygen! I wonder if it's good for asthmatics? I wonder if the chocolate one is *particularly* good for asthmatics? If it comes here I will do a controlled experiment. On me.

Yes to the 1950's cops needing O2. Youkaiichi, just down the coast from Nagoya, and near the main modern Honda plant, used to have such filthy air that the traffic cops had frequent shift changes to toke O2. What with the powdered coal fired cars (!) and heavy industries, that city had the distinction of having the (free) world's highest lung cancer rates, with rates for non-smokers nearly the same as for smokers. The infamous "London Fog" deaths in the late 19th century were way surpassed by post-war Japanese industrialization. I can't even imagine what things were really like in Eastern Europe or the Soviet Union after having seen National Geographic pictures from just after The Wall fell.
When I lived in Seattle 25 years ago, I could look out my Lake Union apartment and see exactly where the interstate to the east and the steel/aviation centers to the south were, with the purplish sea fog contrasting with the whiter fogs in the other parts of town. Here in DC, I'm on the 6th floor, and can see a similar, although more greyish, foggy doughnut surrounding us, right over the Beltway. No need to worry about any of those nasty, polluting, blue-collar industrial jobs around here though!
P.S. If you get a chance to take a tour of the Honda plant, do it. I taught there in the mid-80's, and when "Terminator" came out, I laughed because it was so behind times.

Love the pictures but I'm sorry green tea flavoured air - puke

I've tried oxygen treatment - not the hyperbaric chambers - just an inhalation. It's mean to help with energy but it didn't help me at all. It was all the rage in Hollywood for a while

Very bad weather at my mom's place. Ice/heavy snow storm last weekend and a blizzard now. She was OK today, but she told me about the counties just east of her in east central Iowa. Last week, there was so much ice that the 75000 volt high tension pylons (the 100 ft towers) folded over, and they won't be able to replace those until several weeks after the weather settles down.
Blinding snow today, with 5-10 ft drifts . All the interstates are closed, and the governor ordered the evacuation of about 100,000 people to emergency shelters. Most of those are people who lost power from the first storm. I can imagine trying to go through a blizzard with no power, but not two of them in a week.

That doesn't surprise me. It's interesting-- did it taste good at all? Grapefruit flavor sounds yummy. You rock just for bringing up "Little Shop of Horrors." Priceless! Nitrous Oxide is good stuff! LOL!
